That's a tough one to answer. But it can be answered.
The prophets who foresaw the coming of the Messiah believed in Him, for they wrote about Him.
In the Old Covenant, God was looking for yielded hearts.
In Yeshua's message to them He said openly:
John 5:37-47 (KJV) And the Father Himself, which hath sent Me, hath borne witness of Me. Ye have neither heard His Voice at any time, nor seen His shape. And ye have not His Word abiding in you: for whom He hath sent, Him ye believe not. Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of Me. And ye will not come to Me, that ye might have life.I receive not honour from men.But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.I am come in My Father's Name, and ye receive Me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive. How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust. For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed Me: for he wrote of Me.But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe My words?
Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of Me. -- Yeshua
This is what Moses said:
Deuteronomy 18:15-18 (KJV) The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto Him ye shall hearken; According to all that thou desiredst of the LORD thy God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the Voice of the LORD my God, neither let me see this great Fire any more, that I die not. And the LORD said unto me, They have well spoken that which they have spoken. I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put My words in His mouth; and He shall speak unto them all that I shall command Him.
Yeshua (Jesus), establishes that the Scriptures testify of Him. In fact, Jesus has already fulfilled over 300 prophecies, made by multiple (prophets) authors born in different generations/time periods.
When Peter and John stood in the council of the Sanhedrin in Acts 4, they proclaimed:
Acts 4:10-12 (KJV) Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by Him doth this man stand here before you whole. This is the Stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the Head of the corner. Neither is there Salvation in any other: for there is none other Name under Heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
Neither is there Salvation in any other: for there is none other Name under Heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
Paul told the Romans that all Jews and Gentiles are sinners. None is righteous:
Romans 3:9-12 (KJV) What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin;As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
But Jesus invites us to come and drink of Him:
John 4:13-14 (KJV) Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
John 7:37-39 (KJV) In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of Living Water. (But this spake He of the Spirit, which they that believe on Him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
The Apostle Paul makes this bold statement:
Romans 2:29 (KJV) But he is a Jew, which is one INWARDLY; and circumcision is that of the HEART, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.
This should not come as a surprise to you. Prophet Joel, who about 400 years prior to the coming of Yeshua, proclaimed:
Joel 2:12-13 (KJV) Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to Me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning:And REND YOUR HEART, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God: for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth Him of the evil.
YESHUA means, God saves. Jesus is our Salvation and Righteousness. He is the Mercy and Truth of God manifested to us. He is our Peace.
The Psalmist declared:
Psalms 98:2-3 (KJV) The LORD hath made known His SALVATION: His RIGHTEOUSNESS hath He openly shewed in the sight of the heathen. He hath remembered His MERCY and His TRUTH toward the house of Israel: all the ends of the earth have seen the SALVATION of our God.
When Christ hung on the Cross, the words of the Psalmist were playing out before all who were there, whether they realised this or not:
Psalms 85:8-11 (KJV) I will hear what God the LORD will speak: for He will speak PEACE unto His people, and to His saints: but let them not turn again to folly. Surely His SALVATION is nigh them that fear Him; that GLORY may dwell in our land. MERCY and TRUTH are met together; RIGHTEOUSNESS and PEACE have kissed each other. TRUTH shall spring out of the earth; and RIGHTEOUSNESS shall look down from heaven.
It pleased the LORD to bruise Him.
The Prophet Isaiah wrote: "It pleased the Lord to bruise Him:"
Isaiah 53:1-12 (KJV) Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the ARM of the LORD revealed? For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: He hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see Him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him.He is despised and rejected of men; a Man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from Him; He was despised, and we esteemed Him not.Surely He hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on Him the iniquity of us all.He was oppressed, and He was afflicted, yet He opened not His mouth: He is brought as a Lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so He openeth not His mouth. He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare His generation? for He was cut off out of the land of the living: for the TRANSGRESSION of my people was He stricken. And He made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because He had done no violence, neither was any deceit in His mouth.Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him; He hath put Him to grief: when thou shalt make His soul AN OFFERING FOR SIN, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in His Hand.He shall see of the travail of His soul, and shall be satisfied: by His knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for HE SHALL BEAR THEIR INIQUITIES.Therefore will I divide Him a portion with the great, and He shall divide the spoil with the strong; because HE HATH POURED OUT HIS SOUL UNTO DEATH: and He was numbered with the transgressors; and He bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
The Prophet proclaimed by the Spirit earlier:
Isaiah 9:2 (KJV) The people that walked in darkness have seen a great LIGHT: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.
We are therefore exhorted to walked holy before the Lord, we who have seen and received the LIGHT OF CHRIST.
2 Corinthians 6:14-18 (KJV) Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
